Max the Dog Ornament Craft

Make a Grinch craft! Make this adorable Christmas tree ornament that looks like Max the Dog.

  • Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
  • Time Required: 30 minutes (Does not include drying time)

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
Print out the patterns for Max's head and ears below and cut them out. Trace the head pattern onto the paper bag, and cut out 2 of them. Trace the ear pattern onto the dark brown felt, and cut out 2 of them.

Draw or paint a face onto one of the paper bag heads you cut out. Let it dry completely if necessary.

Cut 3 pieces of yarn: one should be about 8-inches long, and the other 2 should be about 2-inches long. Fold the 8-inch piece in half and glue both ends to the top, back side of the face. This will be your ornament's hanger. Glue the 2 shorter pieces of yarn right next to the hanger to look like a couple pieces of hair.

Put a thin line of glue around the back edge of the face, leaving a 2- to 3- inch section below the mouth with no glue. Glue the face to the other head shape you cut. Make sure the edges line up well. Let the glue dry completely.

Once the glue is dry, cut small pieces (about 2-inches square) from the paper bag scraps; crumple them into small pieces; and stuff them into Max's head. Stuff just enough to give the head some shape, but do not over stuff! Glue the bottom edge of the head closed when you are done stuffing it.

Finally, put a bead of glue along the top edge of each ear and glue it into place. Hang your ornament for all to enjoy!

Get even more creative and make a few Maxes from different scenes of the show. Make one ornament with the antler on his head. You can also use cotton balls and make Max a snow beard and mustache like in the show!
