Clay Star Necklace or Ornament

This is a great craft for any season. For Independence Day, simply paint the star red, white, and blue. For Christmas paint it red and green. How about making it for a camping trip or night spent outside.

Materials Needed:

Instructions:
You can use any kind of clay for this project, as long as it will harden. You can also make your own clay to use.

Start out by rolling out the clay to about 1/4" thick. Use the cookie cutter to cut out a star. Use the end of the straw to poke out a hole in the star to use for the ribbon or plastic lace. Let the clay harden by follow the directions for whichever recipe you choose or clay product you bought.

Once the clay star is dry, you can paint and decorate it as you choose. You can use red, white, and blue paint or perhaps yellow glitter paint. You can also paint your star the desired color, let the paint dry, cover the star with a thin coat of glue, and then sprinkle it with glitter. Seal your completed star with several thin coats of clear acrylic spray.

To make a necklace, simply cut a piece of ribbon or plastic lace long enough to fit around your neck. To make an ornament, cut a shorter piece of ribbon or plastic lace. Thread the ribbon or plastic lace through the hole in your star, tie the ends together and use it however you like!

I hope you enjoy making this star craft. If you make this craft, make sure you send in a photo so it can be posted here. You can also get your own crafts published.
